The date for the annual Marlborough Sports Hall of Fame function has been announced. The Mayoral reception will occur on Monday 16th October 2017 at 6pm at the Marlborough District Council’s civic chambers. The Sports Hall of Fame recognises the performance of Marlborough sports men and women, coaches and officials whose efforts, dedication and talents have gained deserved recognition at national and international level. The Hall of Fame Awards is a way to proudly enshrine sportsmen, women, coaches and officials of our province in a setting which will permanently recognise their names and the occasions of their advancement to higher honours for the edification and inspiration of generations to come. The Sports Hall of Fame recognises the performance of Marlborough sports men and women, coaches and officials whose efforts, dedication and talents have gained deserved recognition at national and international level.

The Sports Hall of Fame Book of Recognition

The inducted sports men and women have their names and accomplishments entered into the Sports Hall of Fame Book of Recognition which was established in 1993 by the then Sport Marlborough's Board of Managers. This book is held at the Blenheim Library.


Awards Function

The Sports Hall of Fame Awards are held annually and are presented at a Mayoral Reception at the Marlborough District Council.

 

Marlborough Sports Hall of Fame

Criteria

This award is open to athletes, coaches, managers and officials.  A person may be nominated for the Sports Hall of Fame if they: 

  • have been selected to represent New Zealand at full senior level
  • have represented New Zealand at an international event
  • were a Marlborough resident at time of representation

In exceptional circumstances Sport Tasman may, at their discretion, consider nominees who don’t fit all the above criteria.

If someone has already been inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame and has gone on to representation New Zealand further please supply us with these details so they can be added to the official Marlborough Sports Hall of Fame book.

Marlborough Sports Roll of Honour

Criteria

This award is open to athletes, coaches, managers and officials.  A person may be nominated for the Sports Roll of Honour if they:

  • have been selected to represent New Zealand at age group level
  • have represented New Zealand as a member of a special New Zealand team e.g. maori, divisional teams
  • were a Marlborough resident at time of representation

In exceptional circumstances Sport Tasman may, at their discretion, consider nominees who don’t fit all the above criteria.

If someone has already been inducted into the Sports Roll of Honour and has gone on to representation New Zealand further please supply us with these details so they can be added in the official Marlborough Sports Hall of Fame book.

If an inducted Sports Roll of Honour athlete has gone on to be selected for full senior New Zealand representation please nominate them for the Sports Hall of Fame.

Sports Hall of Fame and Roll of Honour Inductees 2016

Seven people were inducted into the Marlborough Sports Hall of Fame and thirty-one into the Marlborough Roll of Honour at a ceremony at the Marlborough District Council Chambers in 2014. All of the inductees in the Roll of Honour and Sports Hall of Fame were recognised for representing New Zealand in their respective sports, either ‘on the field’ or as administrators.
