The Sport Tasman Community Sport Team engages with the education sector from early childhood through to secondary school level.

We support early childhood centres and primary schools in fundamental movement skills and basic sport skill development through the provision of training and resources for parents, teachers and caregivers and activity opportunities for children.

In secondary schools, we link with the local sports coordinators and sports codes to run over 25 events for students to participate in each year.  We also support the sports coordinators by facilitating regular group meetings and by providing training and resources.

A focus area for the Community Sport Team is ‘leadership’ – we have a programme supporting young students to develop the skills to become great leaders in the sporting community.

We aim to give all children and young people access to sport and recreation in our region and the opportunity to develop the skills and confidence necessary to participate life long in sport.

Sports & Recreation

Welcome to the Communities programme area for Sport Tasman!  Basically, the role of the Communities Team is to get our smaller communities more active, more often!  We don't necessarily fit into your traditional "sport" way of thinking, but what we DO think about is connecting ALL people with sport and recreation options to suit their needs and their wants in their community.

Ride On Marlborough

Does your school or community group want to learn cycle skills while having heaps of fun?

Then look no further than the Marlborough RideOn Programme! The RideOn programme involves our trained and experienced bike instructors teaching cycle skills based on the Cycling New Zealand Learn to Ride Programme. The fun activity based sessions encourage children to cycle safely and to develop motor skills required for biking, as well as improving their fundamental skills used in many other physical activities, such as balance and coordination. We finish with a wooden challenge circuit in the last session to put participant’s skills to the test.

  • The 1 day programme runs from 9am-2.45pm
  • Only $5 per child (subsidised through KiwiSport and Bike Walk Marlborough funding)
  • Children are encouraged to bring their own bike and helmet however a limited number of loan bikes and helmets are available on request
  • Each participating child is entitled to a FREE bike check at one our Blenheim’s bike stores – Avanti Plus Blenheim, CycleWorld, or BikeFit
  • The programme is off-road however an on-road programme can be delivered on request

For more information and to express interest in the RideOn programme please phone Braden Prideaux on 03 577 8855.

Nelson Tasman Primary School Sports

After consulting with the Nelson Tasman Primary Schools, it has been identified that a webpage dedicated to Nelson Tasman Primary School Sport would be beneficial to the Nelson Tasman community.

The aim of this page is to connect, share and inform the Nelson Tasman community including schools, parents and sports organisations of upcoming events.

This page is a work in progress and will be developing all the time. The page itself will be administrated by Sport Tasman and will be updated regularly.  The information for the calendar needs to be provided to Sport Tasman by the end of term 4. At the beginning of the New Year the calendar will be updated by Sport Tasman.
