After 13 years as Sport Tasman CEO Nigel Muir is leaving the role to take on new challenges, involving environmental restoration, working with youth, and project management of a new walking and cycling track, the Picton to Kaikōura Whale Trail.
“It has been an incredible journey full of fun, learning and challenges. The challenges have included the Kaikōura earthquake, , condensing from six entities to one Sport Tasman brand and helping lead a national charge to put more emphasis around Rangatahi and Active ” says Nigel. But there have been so many richly rewarding projects including our mahi with the Myanmar former refugees, establishing Sports House at Saxton Field, completion of the Kaikōura community pool, and bringing the South Island Masters Games to town. Promoting active recreation, sport, play and community wellbeing has been a very cool gig to be part of.”
“I’d like to acknowledge the Sport Tasman team, and the board for all their hard work and support over the years. We have been able to achieve much through the significant support and collaboration of many, including all five Councils, the Rata Foundation, the NZ Community Trust and Sport NZ. These partners, many local supporters, along with local community and sports organisations, participants, volunteers, parents and caregivers, teachers, coaches make a pretty cool recipe for physical activity and why our region was recently named the most active in the country,” Nigel says.
Nigel will be leaving Sport Tasman in Mid-December.
